DIY fabric organizers

I've been wanting a better way to organize my little fabric stash for awhile, so after doing some research (blog surfing) I came upon a few people who had made their own mini-bolts with comic board backs. They are acid free, very sturdy and the size I used was 81/2 x 11. I love the result. I only bought 1 pack of 50, since I wanted try it out first, but I'll have to go back for some more. I can't believe how much more will fit on a shelf!

And I have at least 3 meters and a couple of the bolts, so they are quite sturdy. I did use a small dressmakers pin to secure the end. So, not much sewing this weekend, too busy with all the birthday celebrations for my little girl. Today, gym first, then sew!!

Charlotte's 7th birthday card!

I made a card for Charlotte today,(her bday is tomorrow) keeping with the toadstool theme like her drawstring bag. This is a retired SU! set, I used prismacolor pencils to color the toadstools glaze pens for the dragonfly.

A few more cards..

Working on some cards this week, the sailboat image is watercolored with crayons. I really like the color combo for the baby card- peach parfait, cajun craze and poppy parade.

Toadstool Drawstring Bag

My youngest daughter is having a birthday next week, and she loves the Smurfs right now. So, I decided to make this drawstring bag from a tutorial by Jeni at In Color Order for her to store her figurines in. I think she's going to love this little bag, and the toadstool fabric is perfect, considering they live in a mushroom village!

First Quilt finish of 2012!

I started this quilt last summer and the top has been sitting on my "to do" list for a long time. Well, I finally finished it, as in I put the last stitch in the binding 10 minutes ago! And yes, I'm happy that I can cross it off my list.

I did straight line, horizontal stitching. The finished quilt is 40 x 40.

Last week, I dropped off 3 finished quilts at Rusty Hinges in Halifax and my Farm Fresh quilt sold the next day! So the owner asked me to bring in more, so in all honesty, that was the push I needed to get this done!

And, I'll be linking this to WIP Wednesday and Quiltstory.

Claire's new Cowl

Claire wanted a cowl for herself after seeing the other ones I had made. The colors on this one are beautiful and works well with her winter coat. I went on the Ravelry website and used the pattern called Honey Cowl.

WIP Wednesday

I have started another quilt, even though I have 2 tops waiting to be finished (since last summer!). Anyhow, I really wanted to make something bright and fun with the Kona Ash color as the background, so I'm using a tutorial from Fresh Lemon Quilts for the blocks. I'll likely make it small though, baby/crib size.

Yesterday, I picked up a box full of vintage quilts from Rusty Hinges in the Hydrostone market, and after a lot of cutting, today I'll be sewing them into heart shapes for window display decorations for the store. I think they are going to be cute, I'll have to get a few pics when it's all done and they are hanging up.

So, I haven't finished a lot, but there is some fun stuff in progress....

Zig Zag Pillow

Today was the first day back to school for my girls, so the house was pretty quiet!! Anyhow, I made another pillow, this one fits a 17 x 17 pillow. I love the half-square triangles, that blue polka dot was one of my favorite fabrics that I picked up at Village Quilts in the summer. Hope everyone is having a great start to 2012!

Fresh sewing!

I fell in love with this fabric while on a vacation in Alberta, and am finally putting it to use for new pillows for the couch. I'm going to do some different patterns, but with the same fabrics, so here is the first one. I sewed it on my new machine, so there is some getting used to, but I love it!

Fabric Tuesday is back at Quiltstory, so I will be linking this over there today!

Sweet Cake

Wow, this is the first crafty thing I've done in a very long time!!! The little break was nice, but now I have had lots of time to think up new things I want to make! And I have a new Pfaff sewing machine from xmas to try out, so that's exciting too. Anyhow, my big sis is having a birthday this week, so today I made this cute card. It's using a new set from the SU! Occasions mini catalogue called sweet cake. Everything on this card is by SU. Hope she likes it!
